The monument in the above pictures is at the Elmira Fireman's Assoc. plot in the
Woodlawn National Cemetery in Elmira. The plot was purchased in 1862 to bury
fireman Joseph Up de Graf of the Torrent Hose Co., killed in the Civil War. The
monument was erected in 1903 by the Exempt Fire Assoc.
The inscription reads;
"We Labored To Save. Our Work Is Done".
The statue is currently being repaired after suffering storm damage.
