Station #4

Station four was built in 1897 on Maxwell PL. to increase response on the city's heavily populated East Side. It's first fire came the night it opened before the paint on the doors had even dried.  It was closed in 1986 due to budget cuts. Three days after the closing,  a  house fire occurred only four blocks from the station that killed a man. The station house was also nationally recognized as a prime example of Classic "Dutch/French" architecture. A movement to make the station a museum is underway.
